Earth Day (1970)The first Earth Day took place on April 22, 1970. It was founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson from Wisconsin ( The unfinished nation). He wanted to channel all of the protesting and rage against the war on Vietnam towards protesting and campaigning for the environment. He encouraged many universities and other organizations to get involved and soon; with the help of Denis Hayes (a Harvard student) he promoted events across the area. (Earth Day Network)
