The Stamp ActSummary: The Stamp Act was passed on March 22, 1765 by the British Parliament in order to financially support American frontier near the Appalachian mountains. It was a new tax which required all of the American Colonies to pay taxes on any sort of paper including newspapers, legal documents, playing cards, and of course, stamps. The actual tax was a small price and was not the reason that the colonists were so upset. The reason that they decided to go against the act was because of the message it sent to the colonists. The message was that the British Parliament could pass laws in the colonies without going through their representatives. (Colonial Williamsburg Foundation)
